The 27th of November, this year’s Black Friday, was a huge success for Amazon UK. In total, the marketplace sold 7.4 million items, which translates to 86 items every second. That by far breaks the old record, 5.5 million items on Black Friday 2014.
Having introduced Black Friday deals week, Lightning Deals and Deal of the Day, Amazon.co.uk this year was set for great sales on Black Friday. And with an average discount of 40 percent, customers came running. According to Amazon, Star Wars toys, the new Fire tablet and Le Creuset cookware were among the most popular products to buy this year.
- Throughout the year, we have been investing in more distribution centres and hiring many more great people in anticipation of our biggest Christmas period ever and, in particular, our biggest ever Black Friday. We are delighted that millions of customers loved the deals on offer, said Christopher North, Managing Director of Amazon.co.uk.
Amazon UK is now expecting a record Christmas season and has therefore invested accordingly. During the year two new fulfilment centres have opened in Dunstable and Doncaster. Amazon now has 10,000 employees in the UK.
