Amazon Gets Into the Business of Restaurant Food

Amazon Gets Into the Business of Restaurant Food

The e-commerce giant rolls out its restaurant delivery service for customers of Prime Now in Chicago.

Prime Now, Amazon´s free one hour delivery service, has spread across the US since it launched in Manhattan in December 2014. But Amazon is not just expanding its service by adding new cities, they are also adding new partnerships.

For example, Amazon have partnered up with local grocery stores and bakeries across the country. Making it possible for Prime Now members to order all kinds of delicacies for delivery to their doorstep.

Recently the e-commerce giant also made a move into food deliveries with Baltimore, Maryland, and Austin, Texas, being the first two cities to enjoy one-hour delivery from local restaurants. Now Amazon adds Chicago to that list.

Keeping an Eye on the Driver

In December Prime Now members in Chicago were able to purchase groceries, prepared meals and baked goods, but now they can also get a warm meal in their tummy before hitting the sweets. Restaurant delivery is available across 18 zip codes in Chicago and there are about 40 participating restaurants at the moment.

Using the Prime Now mobile app, customers can view participating restaurants, browse menus, place orders, track the status of their delivery, and watch as the driver travels from the restaurant to the delivery address in real time.

– Chicago is home to just about every kind of cuisine you could want, says Gus Lopez, general manager, Amazon Restaurants. We’re excited to offer Amazon Prime customers a quick and convenient way to enjoy some of the city’s best restaurants without having to fight traffic or brave the cold.
