Amazon recently announced a big expansion of its free same-day delivery service for Prime members, adding 11 additional metro areas. Now, retail chain Best Buy has made a similar move expanding its own version of same-day delivery in 11 more markets.
The same-day service is part of the retail chain´s growing omnichannel strategy and Best Buy began testing same-day delivery in November in San Francisco and in New York earlier this year.
By adding Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, D.C, the retail chain now offers the service in 13 markets covering 70% of the US population according to Best Buy.
Orders Are Fulfilled From Store Inventory
Orders must be placed on BestBuy.com by 3 p.m. local time and are picked up by Deliv, a Californian company that’s the leader in same-day delivery for retail, for delivery by 9 p.m. that same day.
All same-day delivery orders are fulfilled from store inventory and Best Buy charges an additional fee based on the size and weight of the goods ordered with an average cost of $10 to $20.
– Our stores also play a key role in this pilot because same-day delivery orders aren’t filled at a warehouse but at one of the more than 165 Best Buy stores in the Deliv markets, said John Vomhof Jr, Communications Manager at Best Buy.
