Bitcoin is still a disputed currency but it is gaining ground and could very well play a big role in the future of money transfer and e-commerce. Something e-tailers, online payment providers, as well as banks, have begun to realize in recent years.
PayPal have already made it possible for merchants to accept Bitcoin payments, to some extent, and now they are making a new move signaling the company’s openness to cryptocurrencies by adding Wences Casares, CEO of Bitcoin wallet provider Xapo, to it´s board.
– Wence's unique line of sight into the future of commerce is ideally aligned with PayPal’s vision of transforming the management and movement of money for people around the globe, says Dan Schulman, President and CEO of PayPal.
Bringing Experience to the Table
Argentina-born Casares is a serial entrepreneur and has founded several successful technology and financial ventures. He founded Argentina’s first Internet service provider as well as Latin America’s premier online brokerage, Patagon.
He later founded Banco Lemon, a Brazilian retail bank, as well as mobile payments companies Bling Nation and Lemon Wallet, which was acquired in 2013. Now Casares brings his cryptocurrency experience to PayPal where he will serve on PayPal’s Compensation Committee.
– I am honored to serve on the board of an iconic global company dedicated to driving the transformation of money on a global scale. I look forward to working together with the PayPal board and leadership team to continue to deliver their compelling vision, says Wences Casares.
