Google: Adult Onesies Are the New Ugly Christmas Sweaters

2015-12-01 10:42

Drones, Hoverboards, Smart Watches and Adult Onesies are the new rage according to Google US searches.

The search magnate Google has taken a deep look at US Christmas searches this October. Apart from finding the most popular products they also conclude that more than half of holiday shoppers plan to use their smartphones to get their holiday list done.

Apart from a mobile focused Christmas, Google has found the products that are most attractive in certain categories.

Trending toy searches on Google reveal that drones are on a lot of holiday lists this year. The new Hoverboards that remind us of Segways, only smaller and cheaper, are also looking popular this Christmas.

- Shopping searches for drones are up 80% over the past year, and they’re highest in California. Searches for “hoverboards” started trending in the summer and are up more than 500% since July, said Google on their blog.

The new Star Wars movie brings along a new toy in the BB-8 Droid, also one of the most popular toy searches on Google. The toy brand Shopkins and Lego Dimensions will most likely be found under the Christmas tree as well.

Trending Even Faster Than Ugly Sweaters

In the apparel searches we find adult Onesies, Adidas Superstar shoes, Bomber jackets and Levi's jeans among others.

- Last year “ugly Christmas sweaters” were all the rage. This year we’re seeing holiday onesies are the new kitsch partywear of choice, as searches for “adult onesies” are trending even faster than searches for “ugly Christmas sweater, said Google, and explains they only report the trends, they can't explain them.

In the electronic department the news are not as shocking when we see Smart TVs, smart watches, wireless headphones top the list. Smart watches are however growing in popularity.

- With more models on the market than ever, both smart watches and smart TVs topped our list of trending electronics this year—with “smart watch” searches seeing a particularly phenomenal growth, up nearly 300% compared to last year, explains Google.
