The struggling deals company Groupon is walking away from the Nordic countries. In a statement to TechCrunch, Groupon says that "after careful consideration Groupon will discontinue its operations in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland".
The last day of operations was the 16th of November. Groupon will however work closely with its merchants to ensure that all standing commitments are met.
Not the First Closure
This is not the first closure for Groupon. The business has moved out of Morocco, Panama, The Philippines, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Thailand and Uruguay recently, according to TechCrunch. A pull-back that lead to over a thousand people being laid off.
Groupon has during the last years been moving further away from the original daily deals business and becoming more of an e-commerce player, with different services. The US business seem to be responding well to the changes but the international business is shrinking, hence the current withdrawal from many international markets.
