New E-Retailer Aims for Customers Who Shop for Life Le Creuset cookware gave Tara Button the idea of Buymeonce

New E-Retailer Aims for Customers Who Shop for Life

2016-02-29 11:55

The new online shop Buymeonce.com sells cookware, furniture and socks - all with a lifetime-guarantee.

The idea behind Buymeonce.com came to founder Tara Button, who previously worked in advertising, when she had Le Creuset as one of her clients.

Ceramic cookware maker Le Creuset’s products always come with a lifetime guarantee, which made Tara Button think that there must be more products sold with the same guarantee, and that it could make a good business to collect them in one webshop, news site Mother Nature Network, MNN, reports.

- I tried hard to ignore the idea, but it wouldn't go away. It kept on coming back up in my head. When I would read the news about the environment and about the waste we produce, I felt almost sick. I would get this visceral, itchy feeling inside that told me: 'You can do something about this.' I finally got to the point where I was like 'I have to make this site', she said to MNN.

"Kettles From the 1950's Still Work"

The Buymeonce range now includes everything from toys and cookware to furniture and clothes, including socks, which "is the one that gets people's eyebrows jumping", according to the site.

Since January Tara Button works full time with Buymeonce.com. She is looking to expand her range of products, and is at the moment looking for an electric kettle that could be sold on the site. It has however been difficult to find a company that constructs kettles that are built to last, which she finds astonishing.

-  In a world where we build satellites and send people to space, we can make a kettle that doesn't break after three years. There used to be kettles that lasted longer. If you find a kettle from the 1950s, they often still work. That kind of thing gets my goat. It's frustrating, and I feel it's immoral to make something that breaks and ends up in a landfill, and it's really short-sighted. If you're not a wealthy family, having to replace these items is not cheap. And the first company who does do that will make a killing. People really do want stuff that's built to last.

At the moment Buymeonce.com is available for customers in the UK and the US. A further international expansion is said to be on its way.
