Pinterest Reaches 1 Million Businesses - Spices up Its Pins

2015-12-18 15:29

The social network known for good conversion rates among e-retailers now adds a price-drop function to its pins.

The social network and digital pinboard Pinterest has reached a milestone. This week it celebrated 1 million businesses worldwide that uses their platform.

- It’s the end of the year, and we just want to say thanks to the more than 1 million businesses worldwide who give our Pinners great ideas they can try in their lives every day, said Tim Kendall, General Manager for Monetization at Pinterest.

A big part of the business program at Pinterest is of course their Promoted Pins. A way for e-commerce businesses to promote its wares inside the social network and pay for more exposure.

Buyable Pins Get Email Notifications

In the US you can also use Buyable Pins that makes the transaction take place inside the Pinterest mobile app. The customer never has to leave Pinterest when buying something through a buyable Pin, as the app provides a simple checkout.

The Buyable Pins have now been upgraded. Pinterest has introduced a price-drop function. If a user has saved your pinned product and you lower the price, Pinterest will email the user with the price drop. Something that hopefully will lead to a sale of the pinned item.

- Say you’ve collected a bunch of gift ideas on your Holiday Shopping board. When that cashmere scarf for mom goes on sale, we’ll send you a notification so you can buy it right from the app, said Wonjun Jeong, Software Engineer at Pinterest.

Expect a lot of email notifications as there are over 1 million pins that has their prices lowered every day, according to Pinterest.
