Founded in 2011 Student.com connects international students with professional landlords all over the world. Last year the company claims to have facilitated $110 million in bookings and now lists properties in more than 420 cities in proximity to 1,000 universities.
In 2015 Student.com housed students from 100 different countries. The majority of their customers come from China but the company has seen fast growth in India, South Korea and Nigeria. Now Student.com hopes to ramp up its lodging business even more with new investments from several high-profile investors.
Looking to Grow in Key Markets
According to Forbes the company is announcing a $60 million combined Series B and C round, led by global investment firm VY Capital, with participation from Horizons Ventures, Expa, Xiaomi executive Hugo Barra, and Spotify founders Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon.
The new funding will be used for market expansion and the company plans to expand its operations in the US, Latin America and the Middle East. Student.com also plans to grow its workforce, that today consists of 200 employees based in London, Shanghai, New York and Hong Kong.
