Zalando wants to deliver within 30 minutes to its customers. The online giant, with roots in Germany, is now trying a new shipping method in Berlin and Cologne.
A subset of Zalando's inventory have been shipped out to local storage facilities. When a customer orders products that are stored locally, their order is automatically upgraded to same day delivery. Something we guess the customer probably doesn't mind. The order is then delivered between 7 pm and 9 pm the same evening.
- This is just the first step. The second step is to make the products available for our customers through local shops. Then the delivery can be completed within 30 minutes, said Robert Gentz to Berliner Morgenpost.
The stores cooperating with Zalando must of course be able to return what is not sold. Robert Gentz believes that e-commerce businesses must become more flexible in the future.
- It is no longer just about providing products to customers and then hope that they order something. The consumer is coming to us to solve his problem. He wants to discover something and then get it at the listed price as fast as possible. He doesn't care if it is in a warehouse in Erfurt or in the local convenience store.
